February 2020 Athlete Spotlight

“My name is Randy Kilbourne. I’ve been at Crossfit Praus for over two years. I have been a recruiter for almost 6 years. I started my career in operations management and sales, and earned an MBA a few years back. My career took a turn when I stumbled upon recruiting. I really found my niche by connecting with people to help them grow and meet their career goals.”
“In January 2018 my wife, Rachel, encouraged me to check it Crossfit Praus. I also knew the founders, Shane and Amanda Burge. Honestly I never thought I’d walk through the door because I didn’t think it was for me. It was perfect timing really, I had the support from my wife, and I ended up conveniently crossing paths with Shane and the rest is history.”
“When I started, I was drawn to the drastic difference between what I was doing at the gym on my own and the awesome things the athletes around me were doing. I was also drawn in to the welcoming atmosphere. Each athlete showed continuous encouragement to be the best version of yourself and the bond that was created from the transparency of giving it everything we have when we hear 3… 2… 1… GO!”
“Praus has had an impact in many areas of my life. First, my overall health has improved significantly. I am stronger than I have ever been in my life. I don’t get sick as often as I used to. My body composition has been continuing to improve since day one.”
“Praus has helped me attain a healthy life balance that I had never experienced before. I am more disciplined in my walk with Christ, more consistent and intentional in personal relationships. I have better focus at work, and I’m able to carry more energy through the door at home for my wife and daughters.”
“Funny enough my favorite WOD is Randy, completing 75 power snatches for time. I really enjoy snatching, partly because it’s fun, and partly because it is really challenging. The workout is fast, fun, deceiving, challenging, and rewarding! The first time I did it I thought I was going to die. When I retested 1 year later, my time was 1:34 seconds faster! It was awesome!”
“I’m not going to lie, being on the podium and on a winning team at the Crash the Bash competition in October 2019 was very cool and super memorable. I remember hearing so many voices from the Praus crew that were cheering us on that night during our heat, which started at 9:50pm. That alone was memorable. It’s been many years since I have done anything competitive, and being involved in CrossFit competitions in my late 30’s is really energizing.”
“I have multiple goals I want to achieve, but the ones I am focusing on right now are stringing double unders together, and hand stand push-ups. I get lucky some days and string some double unders together, but I’ve been practicing a lot lately. It will be a big win once I get the technique down. I am also working on building strength and technique for hand stand push-ups, it’s a work in progress. The needle is moving in the right direction.”
“Praus is a second home for me. When I walk through the door I see family. We connect with each other, we encourage each other, and we have fun while doing some amazing things. Once the warm up starts, stress melts, fear dissolves, and for the next hour it’s all of us working together to reveal the best versions of ourselves. I am thankful for the Praus coaches and the time they have invested in me and “the Nooners” who encourage me on a daily basis. If we only sometimes share the floor together, or we only see each other on the whiteboard or the 411, I am thankful for you too. We are all in this together. If you’ve read this far and you aren’t part of the Praus family, this is your invitation to check it out! Bring a friend and join us for a free workout every Saturday at 9:30am!”
